Wardrobe Basic: Stripe Shirt

You may be thinking this is a very simple outfit. Yes. It is, but I must say that a striped shirt is a staple piece for your wardrobe. I absolutely love striped shirts! I have short sleeves, a boat neck, three-quarter sleeve (one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish…). You get the idea.

The reason is very simple. If you wear this shirt, it will instantly pull your look together without looking like you tried to hard and adds class to your outfit. Whether you are going to work or meeting up with friends this is an easy piece to style. You can wear it with pretty much anything:

  • Wear them with jeans and sneakers for a relaxed casual look
  • Wear them with tailored trousers or tapered pants as shown above for a more business look
  • Throw on a blazer for a more preppy/structured look
  • For a demure look pair them with a long skirt with flats or heels.

The possibilities are endless!! It doesn’t matter which color combo you choose. Black and white, red and white, or the more popular navy and white stripes, your look will still be polished.

When I see sailor shirts (which is another name for them) I instantly think of French Fashion (my favorite), which is where it originates from. When it comes to style the French always gets it right with simplicity. Let’s not forget the iconic Hollywood figure who rocked this simple look. One of my favorite fashion crushes Audrey Hepburn. Sometimes you need that one go-to piece and striped shirts are it!

This outfit is my go-to for work. As you guys know I am an Occupational Therapist by day and I work in the school setting. My outfits have to look professional at all times and striped shirts add chic to your work attire. I wore tapered pants, black flats, and went with a classic black and white three-quarter shirt. For accessories, I wore red lipstick and styled it with white or black sunglasses to channel that old Hollywood vibe.

It’s easy to transition from day-to-night just add heels and a cute clutch and you’re ready to go. To add some spice for the night-time look, I styled the outfit with these furry textured heels with a gold point detail. This staple shirt will have you feeling classy and chic, no matter the season or year your outfit will always look timeless. It will be your clutch piece when you don’t’ know what to wear!
