“3 comfortable, causal sweatshirt looks”

“3 comfortable, causal sweatshirt looks”

Hey, guys!! Welcome back to My Mayne Wardrobe!! It is officially winter!! Not my favorite season at all when I was living in Maryland, but because we are living in Houston now, I don’t have to worry about ice, below freezing temperatures, or blizzards!! I get to enjoy a nice mild winter and I am ok with that. (Sorry rest of the world!!) However, it still gets pretty chilly down here and that means pulling out all the sweatshirts!! Not sweaters sweatshirts!!

Sweatshirts get a bad rap. We think of them(or at one time I did) as grimy, disheveled, unflattering, and the only time you can wear them is for lounging and around the house. I honestly had a difficult time figuring out how to wear a sweatshirt that does not involve sweat bottoms and a t-shirt!!But Oh contra re mon fere!!  Retailers lately have come out with more stylish, fitted, and chic alternatives to our college alma mater sweatshirts.

Style tip: The key to pulling of sweatshirts is making sure the outfit is balanced. They tend to be bulky so make sure the bottoms you are pairing them with are fitted or tailored. If you have bulky on top and bulky on the bottom you lose your silhouette in the clothing.

Sweatshirts  are:

  • Comfortable(obviously)
  • Great for casual outings
  • Hide those extra pounds in the midsection that we tend to pack on during the holidays
  • Of course keep us warm and cozy

So I did a bit of research and exploring in my own closet and came up with three different looks I think you guys will enjoy, that does not involve running shoes!! Still keeping with a casual and comfortable vibe that is the main uniform in the winter months. So without further ado, here comes the outfits!!!

  1. Wear a sweatshirt with a positive affirmation on it and style with boots. I recently purchased this sweatshirt at a flea market and I could not resist the saying on the shirt, “God is good all the time”. Not to mention, I love the color combo of purple and gold! I love sweatshirts with positive sayings it allows you to brighten and spread encouragement without talking!! Purple compliments gray really nicely, which is why I paired it with these comfy wedge boots. I added this purple cross body bag from Banana Republic(another favorite store), which is great for the weekends. Not too big, but not too small and gives a laid back feel.  Easy weekend or daytime look.

2. Wear a sweatshirt with a pair of shorts and stylish sneakers!  These faux leather shorts I picked up from Kohl’s were only $4.oo!!! I’m telling y’all don’t sleep on that store!! This outfit has a sporty, yet edgy vibe. It speaks to the inner tomboy. However, the outfit does not fall short of comfort. This is a perfect way to also wear your shorts in the winter time by wearing black opaque tights under them. They will keep you warm and stylish at the same time. Great way to carry over summer items into the winter months. Wear this to the movies or just a casual outing on the weekends.

3. Wear sweatshirt with a pair of jeans and bright pumps: Such a fun outfit!! This is an easy way to repurpose a sweatshirt. I styled it by layering a white button down underneath the sweatshirt and added these bright purple pumps as a nice pop of color to the outfit. Again casual, but classic look with character.

In the end, sweatshirts are the ultimate comfort item, especially for these cold months ahead. Now you have some ideas on how to repurpose your old ones or find some stylish and affordable ones in the stores. Stay warm!!
