“Pretty in a Plaid Shirt “

“Pretty in a Plaid Shirt “

Let’s face it. We all have a plaid shirt or some people call them flannel lying around our house somewhere. Some days you don’t want to dress to the nines or slay!! You just want a comfortable, easy, casual look for the day. You can’t get any more comfortable than a plaid shirt.Which makes them an essential piece to incorporate into your wardrobe. What makes them so great is their functionality!! They are easy to throw on when you are pressed for time and did I mention they are extremely comfortable, versatile, and hide the extra pounds we may have packed on this holiday season!!! Although they are the ultimate lounge apparel, they can be easily dressed up as well!! A plaid shirt should not be viewed as only being styled one way.

They can be layered either worn under something or over a plain t-shirt. Plaid shirts are inexpensive making it easy to stock up on a variety of colors for this fall and winter season. To pique your creativity I am giving you 6 ways to style a plaid shirt. Now most of these plaid shirts I have had in my closet for years. The burgundy plaid shirt is a recent purchase from Old Navy (another favorite store!)  It is fun to shop your closet once in a while and really tap into the creative side of your brain and remix pieces that you already own. You may surprise yourself of all the outfits you can come up with.  After this post, you will look at your plaid or flannel shirts with excitement and renewed eyes of all the possibilities!! So are you ready?? Well, here we go!

1. Wear a plaid shirt under a blazer. This is a perfect look to wear to work on a casual Friday or lunch date with friends. Wearing a blazer can easily transform a casual plaid shirt to a more classic and dressier look.

2. Wear a long or oversized plaid shirt, leggings, and converses. Can we agree this is the ultimate look of comfort? Perfect for running errands or just lounging around the house.

3. A great way to remix your plaid shirt is layering them under another piece. This is a popular way to wear a plaid shirt by layering it under a sweater. This is a classic and chic look to wear to the office. Find a sweater in your wardrobe that is a neutral color like this cream one pictured below and wear a plaid shirt underneath. This will allow the plaid to pop against a solid or neutral background.

4. Wear the shirt over another article of  clothing or tie it in the front for a fun look. In the picture below I styled it with a dress and threw on some boots for a more rugged look. Or another option would be to throw a plaid shirt over a t-shirt, tank, or cami and tie it in the front. The possibilities are endless!

 5. You guys can tell, I remixed this burgundy plaid shirt and threw on some leather pants and this faux fur vest. Mix and match your plaid shirt with textures as styled in the picture below. You may recognize this faux fur vest from another post HERE. It is so important to re-use and mix match pieces you have in your wardrobe. Not only will you get a lot of mileage out of your clothes, but you can stretch your paychecks and save up on something you really need. The only way you can do that is having a variety and solid foundation for your wardrobe.

6. Last but not least. Go 90’s and tie it around your waist. It’s an oldie but a goodie and will certainly add a little something to your outfit!
